Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM): RIDEM is charged with preserving the quality of Rhode Island's environment, maintaining the health and safety of its residents, and protecting the natural systems upon which life depends. The department assists individuals, business and municipalities, conduct research, find solutions, and enforce laws created to protect the environment.
Our services for permitting through RIDEM focus on Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), formerly known as individual sewage system design (ISDS) and freshwater wetlands applications. More specifically, with regard to OWTS permitting, we offer services in soil evaluation, wastewater treatment system design (both conventional and innovative technologies) and treatment system inspection. In regard to freshwater wetland permitting, we offer services in wetland edge verification and project permitting.

Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC):
The Coastal Resources Management Council is a management agency with regulatory functions. Its primary responsibility is for the preservation, protection, development and where possible the restoration of the coastal areas of the state via the issuance of permits for work with the coastal zone of the state. The regulatory authority of the CRMC is generally defined by the area extending from the territorial sea limit (three miles offshore), to two hundred (200) feet inland from any coastal feature, to watersheds, and to certain activities that occur anywhere within the state.
Our services for permitting through CRMC focus on project permitting within the CRMC jurisdiction areas. Project elements which require review and permitting include new construction and building alterations, the installation of and repairs to onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS), and various other project features (i.e. docks).

The RIDOT's mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally, aesthetically, and culturally sensitive intermodal transportation network that offers a variety of convenient, cost-effective mobility opportunities for people and the movement of goods supporting economic development and improved quality of life.
Our services for permitting through RIDOT focus on physical alteration permits (PAP) for residential and commercial projects.
